Days out
Ways to keep it cheap
Local day tickets: most areas sell a single ticket covering bus, tram and train for the day. In the West Midlands the nNetwork Daytripper is about £7.50 off-peak.
Tap and cap: paying by contactless on bus and tram usually has a daily cap, so you never overpay.
Book trains ahead: advance singles bought a week or two early can be a fraction of the walk-up price. Liverpool from Wolverhampton can come in around £14 this way.
Get a Railcard: a Family & Friends Railcard gives a third off adult fares plus big child discounts. It usually pays for itself in one trip.
Free days out: most city museums and galleries are free to enter. The cost is just getting there.
